YiM-Newsletter #3

Dear attendees of the 4th Youth in Mission Congress,

the 4th Congress is coming up soon and we have a whole lot of important information for you, that might just answer some of the questions you have! So please read this newsletter carefully!

1. Community Service Projects

Like last year you will have the opportunity to participate in one of our social projects – true to the motto “Appointed” –because God calls us. We are called by God to put love of one’s neighbor into practice, instead of leaving it a theoretical construct. Are you ready to for this experience?

Below you will find a list of our planned social projects. If you’re interested in one of these projects, follow the link in order to sign up for it. http://www.yimc.de/YiM---Online-Anmeldung_1209.html

project 1 cleanup

project 2 musical program in a nursing home

project 3 hair cutting in a day center for homeless women

project 4 afternoon program for “Haus Bethanien“ (addicts, homeless people, etc.)

project 5 “Thank You campaign” for public bodies

For further information follow the link: http://www.yimc.de/YiM---YiMC-2010---Sozialprojekte---DEUTSCH_1364.html

Important: Please don’t forget to bring your own food for Thursday with you. Our first joint meal is breakfast on Friday morning!

2. Getting there and parking

The Congress will take place in the IGMH (Herzogenriedstr. 50, 68169 Mannheim). It’s probably best to park on the Messplatz. We are allowed to use it during the time of the Congress. We would like to ask you to only park there. Please take a look at the map.

We have posted “YiM” signs all over Mannheim, in order to make it easy for you to find us. You also need an emission sticker for the city of Mannheim, if you’re arriving by car. In case you don’t have one, you can buy one here:

http://www.tuev-sued.de/car_vehicles/services/emissions_stickers_from_tuev_sued

Please note that NOBODY is allowed to park in front of the IGMH behind the closed-off area! Please do not leave any objects of value in your car! Unfortunately we have had some negative experiences with that in the past.

3. Registration

The program will start on time at 8 p.m. on Thursday. You will be able to register from 2 p.m. onward, volunteers from 11 a.m. onward. Please drive directly to the Messplatz, from there you can take your luggage and walk to the IGMH and register. Registration will be open throughout the program on Thursday night. We are confident that there will be no problems during registration, in case there should be “traffic jams” anyway, we’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding in advance. :-) Please have your registration confirmation at hand when you come to register.

4. Meals

There will be no meals on Thursday! Please make sure you have enough food with you for that day. For all those who are helping with the setting up, there will be a supper on Thursday. In general we had to simplify the meals a little, so you will get lunch bags with food in the mornings and in the evenings. Due to hygiene regulations we have also decided to use disposable dishes. You also have the possibility to get a bottle of water in the morning and at lunch in the cafeteria.

5. Accommodation

As usual, all those that have opted for accommodation in the IGMH, will have their sleeping quarters in the classrooms. Two parts of the building will be used for the sleeping quarters, one for the men, one for the women. If you have registered with your youth group you will be put together in one room. When you register at the Congress, you will be able to choose between a room of “early” sleepers and “late” sleepers. Please remember that we want to respect and be considerate of each other and therefore be quiet in and near the “early” sleepers area (read the signs!). So please don’t make any noise or turn on any lights there after 10:30 p.m. (take a flashlight with you). Please do not sleep outside of the classrooms, since that is not allowed due to security reasons. Thanks for your understanding!

6. Hall situation/no access without registration to the IGMH/ live stream

Unfortunately, we have only limited room to accommodate participants. Meanwhile, the maximun number of participants has been reached. Therefore please note the following:

- The prearrangement in main hall and side hall is binding

- Those who had not transferred the fee until the 02/25/2010, are still on the list, but were transferred to the side hall

- If you have signed up for the Congress, but are prevented from attending the Congress for some reason, please contact Astrid Müller: astrid.mueller(at)adventisten.de. That way those on the waiting list will get a possibility to participate.

- Non checked-in people won’t have any access to the IGMH. We can not permit access to the hall to people, who aren’t registered. Those ones have the possibility to follow the Congress via live stream.

The main events as well as two workshops will be broadcasted via live stream. You will be informed in due course concerning any further information on www.yimc.de.

Please, pass this information on to all those who are planning to stop by spontaneously and to those who are interested in watching the live stream. Thank you!

7. What to bring with you:

8. Group picture

On Sabbath after lunch we want to take a group picture. We want to encourage you to wear a YiM T-shirt (in case you have one) from one of the first three congresses. That would make for a great picture! Thanks a lot! :-)
